Shoot 11 - Work Record

For this shoot I am planning to take images of the players both during the warm up and during the game as well I hope to catch the passing and kicking of the ball in order to show the passing of time as the ball will be blurred showing the movement however due to the fact that I am unable to take my DSLR camera into the stadium due to the fact I was unable to gain permission to take it with me I will have to do this shoot on my Samsung camera which is good quality however not as good as my DSLR camera.

During the shoot I was able to get very close to the pitch meaning that I was able to get  clean and clear photogrpahs of the players so that you can easily see what is going on and how the photographs work well together. The quality of the photographs  turned out much clearer than I thought they would however when I decreased the size they became a little bit more grainy and therefore lost the sharpness of my photograph. The photographs however turned out exactly how I want them to turn out and clearly showed off the passing off time that I wanted it to and I used the action freeze setting on the camera in order to show the movement of the ball but keep the player in focus.

I feel that the photo above clearly shows the theme of my photograph and really shows off the passing of time. I think that the shows that the player is in mid-movement due to the fact that the players foot and the ball are out of focus. Originally the photograph was rather dark however after adjusting the levels, curves and vibrance of the photograph I was able to rescue it and make it really stand out and keep the focus on the player and not on anything else happening with in the photograph

Progression

Having completed my 11 shoots for this unit I now have to decided what I am going to shoot for my exam. I have decided that I am not going to aim to create gifs in my exam however if I can then I will however this will not be my main aim as I feel they will eat up a lot of my time and I won't have enough time to edit all the photographs that I want to.

Shoot 10 - Work Record

For this shoot I hope to make it to the station in order to capture commuters on their way to work or coming up from the station having arrived at their location for work. I feel like this will really show off the passing of time as it will lead the viewer to think of the journey that the person has taken to get to this point but also to end up where they are right know and where they are going. I think this should could lead to the creation of some gifs that will work very well together and therefore it will mean that I am able to get more and more practice at creating the gifs.

When doing this shoot I realised that it was too light to create long exposure images due to the fact that it was very bright at the time and the pictures were all coming out white and even after changing the iso and aperture I was unable to get the right colour so I used continuous shooting part of my camera in order to capture the passing of time

While I was on location I saw this man and I decided that I could turn this into a never ending gif however when I was editing it I realised that you could see the car going past in the background so I had to crop out the cars so that the car didn't disappear. I feel like this really tested my editing skills as I tried to created a gif that could look like it would never end. I feel that this works well and really helped me with the detailed needed in creating a gif.

I feel that this sequence of images shows off the passing time as you can clearly see the boys getting further and further into the shot and the fact that they have all be laid next to each other suggests the passing of time as you look along the line in order to see the sequence of images in a clear and distinctive line. The passing of time is clear within the images as they begin to become more and more into the shot and you can see that the movement of their feet all link together in order to show off a clear sequence of images highlighting the passing of time.

Progression
I have looked in to doing another shoot at Allianz Park when Saracens play Northampton Saints and am currently waiting to hear back from them as to whether or not I will be allowed to take my camera into the venue as I feel  I will be able to capture the passing of time clearly during the match. I also hope to be able to capture sequences of image in order to have another go at creating gifs.

Shoot 9 - Work Record

For this shoot I hope to be able to photograph the food as it is eaten.  I hope that by photographing the images in the sequence I will be able to create a gif out of them. I have wanted to learn how to create gifs in photoshop and therefore bettering my knowledge of photoshop. I hope that this shoot will work well and show off the passing of time differently. I think this will work well as the object will stay there same there will just be parts of it missing. I feel like one thing that could go wrong with shoot is the length of time that it takes to get through all of the food in order to make sure that the changes in the food are clear. I also worry that some of the changes in the food might not be clear enough to show off the changes.

This image showed the passing of time well as more and more of the orange disappears. I feel that there are enough stages to the eating of the orange in order to show off exactly  how the orange gets eaten. I feel that this photograph works well and it shows clearly the passing of time throughout the image. I feel that this sequence works well as an images clearly link together and show the passing of time.

I also created gifs for this shoot as I shot the photo in a stop-motion style. I was able to crop the images to the same size in order to create the gifs correctly. I feel that this works well and again shows the passing of time. I feel like the gif works well with as the stages are slow and therefore allows people the chance to process what is changing between the photographs. I liked learning the process of making a gif as i feel that I leant more about photoshop and know I can create these in my exam.

Progression

For my next shoot I plan to photograph people walking towards or away from the station again I plan to do this is a stop motion fashion in order to create the correct idea from the shoot. I want to continue to create gifs in order to better my knowledge of photoshop and to also continue to create continuous shots of places or objects in order to tell a story.

Shoot 8- Work Record

In this shoot I hope to show the literally passing of time. I intend to do this through photographing clocks and phones that show off the passing of time. In this shoot I am aiming to show the literal passing of time. I will photograph the same clocks at different times and then different clocks at the same time. For this shoot I will use the table top in order to keep the white background clear but I will also use the equipment that means I can have my camera looking down on the watch in order to get the right angle. I hope that this shoot will also allow me to look at another way in which I could take my topic.

In this image I have photographed the literally passing of time through the fact that there is a time difference between the image. I also like that there looks as if there is no background and there is a high level of contest between the black and white seen in the picture. The picture clearly links with the theme that is the passing of time and shows this rather literally. I used some editing techniques to make the numbers brighter and to help them stand out.

In this image I used 4 different clocks and created one whole clock. The image works well because the image shows the passing of time and how people change clocks over time. I didn't edit the photographs that much because the images were all different and I couldn't make the clocks look the same colour. I like that the hands go over to different photographs and that they don't line up perfectly because it means that you can see the difference between the all the clocks and this shows that it is multiple different clocks merged together.

Progression

I didn't enjoy this shoot because I didn't feel like it went that well nor did I think that it fit well with my other shoots so in the next shoot I would like to go back to photograph  the passing of time in short snaps and this is why in the next shoot I want to show the passing of time with food. This links well with my theme as I can create animations with it. I don't like this ideas so I do not wish to take it any further.

Shoot 7 - Work Record

After the success of my previous shoots, I decided to shoot the lights on the back of the cars to capture the movement of the car. I think that this will link well to the theme of the passing of time because of the speed that the cars will be driving at as I plan to shoot on my local high street and then on a motorway bridge. I think that this fits well with the theme of light traces and with these lights I will be able to capture multiple different light traces. I hope that I will be able to capture the clear lines of the lights and make sure that they all blend together and I also hope that the lights will be clear enough to be able to see the line of the car. I think I could stubble to get the right exposure time however this should be easy to fix.

I like this image because there were blue lights going done one side of the motorway and lorry with lots of lights coming the other way meaning that I was able to capture both these different coloured lights in the traffic making them stand out and capture the attention of the person looking at the photograph. I feel that the different colours will spark interest in the persons mind as they try to work out why they are. I I like that the contrast between the two sides of the road are clear and highlights the fact that it is a busy motorway and the traffic isn't right next to each other.

In this image a car went down the road next to where I had placed my camera in front of at  his indication and movement created a different pattern that stands out in the picture and the orange in the picture makes a change because it stands out with the red and orange lights. I think this image works well because you can still see the road and the shops around the lights and the lights look like a high speed car has driven straight through the photograph. I think that I was able to achieve everything that I wanted to with the shoot and therefore I would consider this a success because I was able to capture the image however I did edit the photographs in photoshop in order to enhance the colours in the image and to darken the background to make the lines stand out more.

Progression

I have looked in detail at light traces having done 3 shoots on it now however I would like to look at something different in my next shoots. I plan to photograph clocks next and literally show the passing of time. I feel that with this shoot I will be able to do some very clever editing techniques in order to make the shoot stand out . I feel that this would progress well from this shoot because of the editing involved in this shoot and therefore to continue with editing techniques makes sense.

Shoot 6 - Work Record

Considering how well the last shoot went I have planned to recreate this shoot outside using sparklers. I want to use sparklers because of the easy pattens that you can create with them but also because of sparks that will be flying off of the sparklers. I also wanted to  do a shot outside as I feel that it feels more natural that will show off the sparklers better. I feel like this is a natural progression from my last shot and I feel that if this works well I will continue with the light trace theme however if they don't I will have to look into choosing a new path. From the shoot I hope to achieve some good images that really highlight the passing of time and the detail of the sparkler as it goes around the person. I also hope to be able to play around with the camera settings in order to find the perfect camera settings.

I like this image because it is extremely simple and therefore means that focus remains on the movement of the sparklers and the passing of time rather than anything else. I think that it is good that you can't see the models face because I feel that this means that it doesn't matter who is in the photograph as it is the wings that are the important part. I also think that the fact the wings are there twice means that the idea of the passing between the drawing of one set and the drawing of the second set.

I also think that this shows off the passing of time and you can see that the circles have been draw and the direction changes in the middle. I also like this image because you can't see the person drawing the circles. I also think that this shows the passing of time because of all the different sparks flying off in different directions. I think that this shows the passing of time because it makes you think of the time that it has taken to draw out the circles.

Progression

For my next shoot I will photograph the lights of cars to show the passing of time. I feel that this will link well with the last two shoots and will also give a real life everyday example to the passing of time. I feel like now that I have done too shoots similar to this I will be able to photograph the movement of cars with minimal issues as I know the camera settings that it should be on.

Shoot 5 - Work Record

From the last shoot I decided that I would try to look at a different theme for my topic so I have decided that my next few shoots I would photograph light traces in order to show the passing of time. I think that this shot will work well and that it links well to my theme. For this shot I hope to learn the camera settings needed to photograph light traces and capture the detail in them. If this shoot goes alright then I will try to capture the light traces created by sparklers. If this shoot doesn't work well and I am unable to capture the light traces I will then have to look at taking my work in a different direction.

For this set of images I decided to outline the person using the light in order to highlight their shape. This shows the passing of time because you can tell that the photograph is a long exposure as you can see the whole of the light trace. People who don't know photography that well will also be able to tell that the images show the passing of time because you normally can't see a whole light trace in a normal image. I chose to put them in a four because they were all on the same theme and linked together well. I feel that some worked better than others in the set however I feel that they all work well together and show off the them well.

This is another image that worked well as the spiral around his body has stayed in a clear shape and therefore has worked well in highlighting his body. I feel that this worked well apart from the fact that the light was having to be passed between two people and therefore the light has also capture the movement of the hands however this doesn't notice that much and therefore it still works. I feel that the fact that you can't see his face clearly works well with the theme because the spiral is the important bit rather than the person in the photograph.

Progression

As this shoot worked well I feel that I will be able to recreate this using sparklers. I feel that I was able to get the right camera settings and this means that I am prepared for my next shoot. I feel that sparklers may work better than the light as you will get more sparks from a sparkler and this will give the photograph a different feel. I feel sparklers will give off a different feel as they aren't photographed in this way very often.

Shoot 4 - Work Record

After the success of my previous shoot I am now going to shoot the drops of food dye into both milk and water. I feel like this links well to my last shoot as it shows the step before the dilution process. I know that this is going to be hard to capture and may take a long time to capture correctly but I feel that this is a natural way in which to progress within my project. I also think that through this shot I will be able to learn new camera techniques and work out the best way in which to photograph this fast paced movement.

I decided to turn some of the better drops into a multiple imagery set. I like the different colours and how ever drop isn't the same. I felt that these made a very good set as they gave off the idea of the passing of time as I felt that the person would think about the drop finally splashing into the milk. I like the way this image turned out and therefore it linked well to my them as it helped show off my theme .

I have taken this image by accident but I like the fact that I was able to capture the some of the colour diluting in the water. I didn't use this image because there were no images similar to this in my set so therefore I couldn't link this to my theme. If I had taken more images like this one I could have used them in a set. I think that I could have created a whole image out of some of these images to make a whole pot of milk with food dye in.

Progression

I would focus more on the images I am taking so I don't end up with images that don't fit my theme. I would also look at taking images that could be linked in a set because I think that these help show the passing of time as there are more images to show off this theme. In my next shoot I plan to showcase light traces and capture them successfully as I feel that this is another good way in which to show off the passing of time

Shoot 3 - Work Record

For this shot I plan to photograph the way in which food colouring dilutes in water. I plan to use different colours in order to show off how different coloured for dyes dilute in water and how they create different patterns as they dilute in water. I think that this could be a very good shoot as I will be able to create a series of images that can be position next to each other to clearly show the passing of time. I hope that in this shot I will be able to set up the studio on my own and get the lighting right to be able to photograph the patterns in the perfect way. I also hope that I am able to capture all of the dilution and the patterns that the food dye creates when it is dropped in to the water.

In the images above the dilution worked very well as you can see how time has passed during the process of dilution throughout the photographs. I like that I was able to capture the images and put them into a sequence in order to show how time has passed. I think that these work well shown as a sequence and this highlights the fact that time has passed between the taking of these photos.

This image didn't work as well as I thought it would. The yellow food dye didn't dilute that well and there for it didn't created the kind of pattern that I was looking for as the food dye settled at the bottom of the jar and didn't dilute in the water. As the food dye didn't dilute it didn't work well and therefore I couldn't use this in my straight images.

Progression

In my next shoot I will check the focus of my camera before taking the images and checking that all the props work well. I would also check the set up and make sure that I allowed myself more room in my set up in order to work better. If I was to redo this particular shoot I would attempt it with just my camera flash as I feel that the lights didn't help the yellow or orange when they were diluting. For the next shoot I would like to drop the dye in to water again and in milk to try and capture the actual drop of the food dye rather than the pattern of dilution in the substance.

Shoot 2 - Work Record

For this shoot I plan to photograph my friends dancing in the studio. I think this will make a good subject to photograph. As they are creating a lot off detailed movements I feel that these will make interesting photographs and because of the techniques that I learnt in the previous shot I feel that I can make this a success. I hope that I am able to recreate the photos from the last shoot but also learn from my mistakes.

When taking these photographs I felt very rushed as I only had about half an hour with the girls and I also had to set the studio up as it was occupied before I was using it. I feel that the shoot went well and I was able to capture some good images and therefore I feel that the shoot was worth will completing.

Below is a picture that I like

I like this picture because I like how  I managed to capture all of the important movements within the routine. It took me a while to get the right to camera  on to the right
setting however once I had done this it worked really well and really showed off all the key movements in the routine that they had created. I also like this picture because I worked hard on the editing in order to really show off the dance and the clear movements from one move to the other.

Below is a picture that didn't work so well.

This is one of the picture that worked well however I had the light on to bright and the picture came out over exposed. It didn't work as well as some of the other images I had created due to the fact that light was on the wrong setting. I tried playing around with the photograph on photoshop however it didn't work well at all. I also feel that the flash's weren't in the right places and I feel like they didn't capture the right movements.

Progress

When I next do a shoot like this I will make sure I check the settings of the camera and the light before I get the models into the studio and make sure that everything is correct and ready when they arrive because nothing was ready when they arrived and I felt very underprepared. I would now like to take my topic in a different direction and in my next shoot plan to photograph the dilution of food dye in water

Shoot 1 - Work Record

For this shoot I will practise different techniques that could be useful throughout my project and therefore could influence the way in which I choose to take my project.  I have chosen to start out with simple movements so that I am able to work on the techniques and make sure that this is going to work before I launch into bigger more complex shoots. By the end of the shoot I hope to have created some good images that show off the techniques that I have learnt and I hope to know exactly what I am doing before going into my next shoot so that I can capture the right images.

During the shoot I was able to capture some very clear images. I feel that it was a good idea to complete this shoot as I feel that if I hadn't done this shoot I would struggle when trying to do it in the next shoot. I feel that even though I was using this shoot as a test shoot it worked well as I was able to create some very good images considering that I was learning about the camera settings.

Below is one photo from the shoot that I like

I think this photograph really shows the passing of time well as you can see the movement of the girl as time goes past. I like that you can clearly see all of her movements within the photograph and you can clearly see that time is passing during the photograph. I really liked the use of slow sync in the photograph which involved me flashing the light throughout the long exposure shot of the photograph.

Below is a picture from the shoot that I don't like

This photograph is over exposed because I was trying to photograph it using the natural light but after taking this photograph I realised I would need to use the studio lights in order  to make the whole photograph clearer and mean that you can see the people in the photographs.

Progression

I would like to do another shoot using these techniques. I would like to use these techniques on more interesting things like dancers and sports players to really help show the passing of time.  I would also like to create more of the gifs that I have created from this shoot and therefore means that I can portray the passing of time through moving pictures.
