Shoot 7 - Straight Images

Shoot 7 - Contact Sheet

Shoot 7 - Work Record

After the success of my previous shoots, I decided to shoot the lights on the back of the cars to capture the movement of the car. I think that this will link well to the theme of the passing of time because of the speed that the cars will be driving at as I plan to shoot on my local high street and then on a motorway bridge. I think that this fits well with the theme of light traces and with these lights I will be able to capture multiple different light traces. I hope that I will be able to capture the clear lines of the lights and make sure that they all blend together and I also hope that the lights will be clear enough to be able to see the line of the car. I think I could stubble to get the right exposure time however this should be easy to fix.

I like this image because there were blue lights going done one side of the motorway and lorry with lots of lights coming the other way meaning that I was able to capture both these different coloured lights in the traffic making them stand out and capture the attention of the person looking at the photograph. I feel that the different colours will spark interest in the persons mind as they try to work out why they are. I I like that the contrast between the two sides of the road are clear and highlights the fact that it is a busy motorway and the traffic isn't right next to each other.

In this image a car went down the road next to where I had placed my camera in front of at  his indication and movement created a different pattern that stands out in the picture and the orange in the picture makes a change because it stands out with the red and orange lights. I think this image works well because you can still see the road and the shops around the lights and the lights look like a high speed car has driven straight through the photograph. I think that I was able to achieve everything that I wanted to with the shoot and therefore I would consider this a success because I was able to capture the image however I did edit the photographs in photoshop in order to enhance the colours in the image and to darken the background to make the lines stand out more.

Progression

I have looked in detail at light traces having done 3 shoots on it now however I would like to look at something different in my next shoots. I plan to photograph clocks next and literally show the passing of time. I feel that with this shoot I will be able to do some very clever editing techniques in order to make the shoot stand out . I feel that this would progress well from this shoot because of the editing involved in this shoot and therefore to continue with editing techniques makes sense.

Shoot 6 - Straight Images

Shoot 6 - Contact Sheet

Shoot 6 - Work Record

Considering how well the last shoot went I have planned to recreate this shoot outside using sparklers. I want to use sparklers because of the easy pattens that you can create with them but also because of sparks that will be flying off of the sparklers. I also wanted to  do a shot outside as I feel that it feels more natural that will show off the sparklers better. I feel like this is a natural progression from my last shot and I feel that if this works well I will continue with the light trace theme however if they don't I will have to look into choosing a new path. From the shoot I hope to achieve some good images that really highlight the passing of time and the detail of the sparkler as it goes around the person. I also hope to be able to play around with the camera settings in order to find the perfect camera settings.

I like this image because it is extremely simple and therefore means that focus remains on the movement of the sparklers and the passing of time rather than anything else. I think that it is good that you can't see the models face because I feel that this means that it doesn't matter who is in the photograph as it is the wings that are the important part. I also think that the fact the wings are there twice means that the idea of the passing between the drawing of one set and the drawing of the second set.

I also think that this shows off the passing of time and you can see that the circles have been draw and the direction changes in the middle. I also like this image because you can't see the person drawing the circles. I also think that this shows the passing of time because of all the different sparks flying off in different directions. I think that this shows the passing of time because it makes you think of the time that it has taken to draw out the circles.

Progression

For my next shoot I will photograph the lights of cars to show the passing of time. I feel that this will link well with the last two shoots and will also give a real life everyday example to the passing of time. I feel like now that I have done too shoots similar to this I will be able to photograph the movement of cars with minimal issues as I know the camera settings that it should be on.

Shoot 5 - Work Record

From the last shoot I decided that I would try to look at a different theme for my topic so I have decided that my next few shoots I would photograph light traces in order to show the passing of time. I think that this shot will work well and that it links well to my theme. For this shot I hope to learn the camera settings needed to photograph light traces and capture the detail in them. If this shoot goes alright then I will try to capture the light traces created by sparklers. If this shoot doesn't work well and I am unable to capture the light traces I will then have to look at taking my work in a different direction.

For this set of images I decided to outline the person using the light in order to highlight their shape. This shows the passing of time because you can tell that the photograph is a long exposure as you can see the whole of the light trace. People who don't know photography that well will also be able to tell that the images show the passing of time because you normally can't see a whole light trace in a normal image. I chose to put them in a four because they were all on the same theme and linked together well. I feel that some worked better than others in the set however I feel that they all work well together and show off the them well.

This is another image that worked well as the spiral around his body has stayed in a clear shape and therefore has worked well in highlighting his body. I feel that this worked well apart from the fact that the light was having to be passed between two people and therefore the light has also capture the movement of the hands however this doesn't notice that much and therefore it still works. I feel that the fact that you can't see his face clearly works well with the theme because the spiral is the important bit rather than the person in the photograph.

Progression

As this shoot worked well I feel that I will be able to recreate this using sparklers. I feel that I was able to get the right camera settings and this means that I am prepared for my next shoot. I feel that sparklers may work better than the light as you will get more sparks from a sparkler and this will give the photograph a different feel. I feel sparklers will give off a different feel as they aren't photographed in this way very often.
