Connecting Essay 5

In the photograph below Darren Beale has capture the movement of the cars clearly. He has also used long exposure in order to show the passing of time and the light traces shows the movement of the car again to show the passing of time.  Darren has positioned his camera over the side of the motorway that is driving away from hime so that this is the main focus of the photograph however you can see light traces of the cars driving towards him as well and therefore it means that the person can tell the type of road that the photograph is being taken on and it also adds to the passing of time shown in the photograph.

In my photograph I positioned myself in the middle of the bridge in order to show off both sides of the motorway an create clear light traces. I positioned myself there in order to get a clear image of both sides of the motorway. I also used the longest exposure time, 30 seconds, on my camera in order to capture as many light traces as I could. I used photoshop in order to enhance the light traces and make them brighter than they originally were and to make them stand out and highlight the passing of time within the photograph.

Both images use the long exposure and the car headlights in order to show off the passing of time. Both the images show the passing of time through the lines created by the head and rear lights of the car. The photographs have both been edited in order to brighten the traces and show off the movement of the cars. Both photographs a very dark as the photographs had to be taken at might in order to capture the light created by the car and this creates contrast between the light and the dark within the photograph.

Connecting Essay 4

In the image below Sadie Hernandez has used sparklers to create butterfly wings behind her model . The long exposure means that the wings have been fully captured and stand out. This image has been taken at dusk so that you can still see the person in the photograph but you can also see the movement of the person in the background creating the wings. The image has been edited so that the sparks coming off the wings look bright but to also enhance the small sparks that have fallen from the sparkler. The image works well as it shows off everything that it needs to and shows off the passing of time due to the movement of the sparkler and the man standing behind the girl.

In my image I have recreated the butterfly wings however I recreated mine in the pitch black and I really liked the effect that it had on the photograph because the sparkler lit up engough of the shape of the body that you could tell the person was there however you can't see their face so you don't know whether it is a man or a woman or the kind of facial expression that they have . This makes the photograph simple and means the focus remains on the wings and the time that went into drawing them and therefore linking to the theme of the passing of time. The contrast between the colour of the background and the sparklers makes them stand out and therefore it means that the theme of the passing of time is key in the photograph.

In both images long exposure has been used to capture the movement of the sparklers, they both rely on the clear movements of the sparkler to show off the passing of time. They both rely on drawing of wings in order to show the passing of time. The contrast of colours in both pictures helps in making the sparklers stand out and therefore it means that the passing of time is highlighted as it is in the foreground of the photograph capturing the audiences attention.

Connecting Essay 3

In the image below the photographer has captured the drop of food colouring into milk. The splash has been captured as it bounces back up before settling into the milk. The colour of the food dye mixes well with the food dye and therefore it shows off the passing of time through the idea that the drop is only midway through dropping and gives the person looking at the image a chance to thing about how it got to that point and how it ends up. The simple editing of the photograph means that you can still see the different colours in the image and this helps show off the dilution of the food dye and this again helps add to the idea of time passing.

In my images I was able to capture the drops when I did them and was able to do it in different colours. These images worked well in a four and showed the same theme. I felt that these worked well together and highlighted the passing of time as all the drops are captured at different stages of the drop process. I used the different colours to also show off the passing of time so people could see how different colours fell and the kind of splash that they made. The fact that all these images are at different points of the drop it gives the idea of the full process as they show the complete process with all the colours involved.

The images both uses the idea of capturing the drop of food colouring into a substance and capturing the splash of it, these both rely on this to show the passing of time and therefore the use of four images helps show this. The images are similar in the fact that they all focus on the line created on the drop. There are many similarities in the fact they only show the drop and nothing else, this very simple style maintains focus and helps the image lead to the theme of the photograph, the simple style also does distract from the image or lose focus.

Connecting Essay 2

In this image the food dye has been dripped into the water and then edited so it looks like it is being dripped from the bas of the image rather than from the top. In this image the food dye has been left unedited and therefore it means that there are some break off bits of dye that makes the picture look less professional also the lighting gets darker towards the top of the image and this means that it looses its colour. I think that this works well and it also shows the passing of time clearly as you cans see where the food dye to has all gone into the water and there is just a small trail connecting the two large sections of food dye together.

In the image below I have turned the base image upside down and then colour matched the background to the whole background in order to make it look like there is no background there. The image looks well created and the set up took a long time to set up and it took me a while to create the right image and therefore this adds to how well the photograph works together. I like that I was able to white balance the image and keep the colour consistent through out the whole image.

These images link together as they are very similar and both have used editing to make the photographs stand out as you usually don't see the food dye going up it is usually going down. The images also work well because the colour has been keep clear and it really helps to show the passing of time. The fact that the in some places the colour is darker than in others adds to the idea that the food dye hasn't diluted as much in those places as it has others and this is a clear indication of time passing.

Connecting Essay 1

In the image below the passing of time has been shown through the movement of the person doing ballet and this image shows the detail of the movements that the person has made. The dancer is in the middle of the frame so that all of her movements can be seen in the image.  The dark background makes the dancer stand out and the simple editing has helped the person stand out and there for it means that the simple picture  keeps it simplicity and keeps the focus on the passing of time shown in the images. The image helps to show the movements of the person off and allows people to really appreciate movements that a dancer can do in a short amount of time.

In my image the girl decided to do a very detailed jump and I decided this would make a vey good photograph. This isn't a long exposure photograph however once I had laid the images over the top of each other and it worked very well and therefore I really liked it. It showed of the passing of time well and the continuous shooting worked well together as all the movements are clear and you can really see ever one of the movements that she made.  This worked well and the editing was harder than I expected as I had to find the right opacity for the pictures in order so that you could see the movement but it still looked like the movement wasn't overtaking the whole image.

In both these images the placement of the dancer in the frame is important because it means that all of their movements can be seen within the frame and the passing of time is shown clearly throughout the passing of time. Also contrast of colours are similar in my image the background is white and the girl is wearing black and in the other image it is the other way around. The images are both very simple and therefore the focus of the image remains on the passing of time and nothing else.
